We are pleased to announce our new partnership with a leading UK-based commercial printing company, headquartered in Bicester. This client is renowned for its high-volume, time-sensitive printing capabilities, specialising in producing magazines, catalogues, and retail advertising materials. Their state-of-the-art facility in Oxfordshire boasts six web offset presses and one of the largest binding lines in the country, enabling them to print up to 200 million A4 pages and finish up to 2 million books per day.
As part of a larger European group, our client serves a diverse portfolio of clients, including major publishers and retailers. They are known for their ability to deliver complex print products to tight deadlines, leveraging their advanced technology and skilled workforce. Job Description:
As a Press Assistant, you will be an integral part of the print production team, supporting the efficient and continuous operation of high-speed printing presses. This role is ideal for individuals who are hands-on, mechanically minded, and thrive in structured, process-driven environments. Working alongside experienced Press Operators, you will ensure that materials are prepared, machinery is running smoothly, and all output meets strict quality standards.
Your day-to-day duties will include preparing and loading paper and ink supplies, assisting with press setup and changeovers, monitoring print quality throughout each run, and helping to resolve any minor issues that may arise during operation. You'll also be responsible for keeping your work area clean and safe, supporting preventative maintenance tasks, and following all site procedures closely.
The role requires a strong focus on accuracy and consistency, as even minor errors can impact final product quality. Attention to detail, strong communication, and a willingness to learn new technical processes are essential. While experience in a similar role is advantageous, full training will be provided for candidates with the right attitude and work ethic.
This position offers both day and night shift options on a rotating pattern, with 12-hour shifts (7am–7pm or 7pm–7am). The rota is designed to offer a great work-life balance—you will work just 33 hours per week but receive pay for 36 hours, giving you additional paid hours each week.

Your responsibilities as a Press Assistant include:
- Assist Press Operators with the setup, operation, and monitoring of high-speed printing presses
- Load raw materials (paper, ink, plates) and prepare the press for production runs
- Conduct in-process quality checks to ensure print accuracy and consistency
- Identify and escalate minor mechanical or print issues promptly
- Maintain a clean, organised, and hazard-free working environment
- Follow job specifications, safety guidelines, and operational procedures at all times
- Support routine maintenance and cleaning schedules on equipment
- Work collaboratively with team members and supervisors to meet production targets
- Accurately record production data and complete shift handover reports
The requirements as a Press Assistant include:
- Previous experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, or print environment is advantageous
- Mechanically minded with good problem-solving skills
- High level of attention to detail and quality awareness
- Physically fit and capable of standing for long periods and handling materials
- Able to follow instructions, standard operating procedures, and health & safety protocols
- Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a team
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced production setting
Shift Times:
This role is offering both day and night shifts working 12 hour shifts. This is either wording 07:00 - 19:00 OR 19:00 - 07:00.
With the setup of the rota, this role requires you to work 33 hours per week, however, you will be paid for 36 hours per week.
PAY RATES:
This role is paying £13.75 per hour.
Start Dates / Induction Process:
Upon successful completion of your application, you will be offered an interview slot with the manager. If you are successful in your interview, then you will be offered a position on a temp - perm basis.
